Drama: Acting Fundamentals

Facilitator, Richard, in action.

Acting & Dramatization: We took the physicality, character relationships & dramatization lessons from Brigham Young University's Theatre Education Site.  There's lot more for your students at this site, so check it out!

We adapted some of the lessons for your workshop, and you can get our adaptations below.

 Buying a Birthday Card

Relationships in Acting: One of the lessons we adapted for Malaysia was Relationships.  These are the scenarios we used in your class:
  1. Go shopping for a birthday card of a mutual acquaintance.  Roles: You + King/Queen, Colleague of Opposite Gender, Father/Mother, Best Friend.
  2. Ask someone to retrieve your keys which have fallen behind a desk.  You can't because you have pulled a muscle in your back.

Sore Back: Can you get my keys?

Props: You can use as many props as you like, but keep them minimal.  The important thing is that your props represent a range of ages, genders and characters (not just fairy tales).  Here is a list of props we used in your workshop:

  • baseball cap & windscreen wiper
  • walking stick
  • military gun and helmet
  • flip-flops & sun umbrella
  • sword
  • veil and (fairy godmother) wand
  • skipping rope
  • basket
  • baseball bat & ball
